The Healthcare & Science business of Thomson Reuters provides intelligent information to better manage the cost and quality of healthcare and accelerate scientific research and innovation.
Oversee development, maintenance and delivery of product training and documentation, data manager training and documentation and knowledge management services.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Set vision and direction for training, documentation and knowledge management teams.
  • Set performance and development objectives for department managers; track progress and provide coaching and guidance as needed.
  • Serve as quality control point for key department deliverables (training programs and materials, product documentation, knowledge management projects and services).
  • Drive continued use of competency based training principles and techniques to ensure that training programs produce measurable results.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders. Schedule and conduct regular meetings with product managers to gain early insights into upcoming product changes and schedules.
  • Coordinate training activities with client services teams to ensure that client expectations are met.
  • Work with Finance and Business Unit heads to establish department budget during the annual planning and budgeting process.
  • Research new tools and technologies related to training, technical writing and knowledge management. Purchase and implement new tools as required. Ensure that team members receive adequate training to utilize new tools.
  • Negotiate renewal contracts with vendors for major systems (View Central, Columbia Soft and Mzinga).
  • Maintain, enhance and report on core metrics used to evaluate department performance.
  • Gather and analyze customer feedback on training and documentation as a basis for improving Knowledge Services programs.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Twelve-plus years formal training and successful on the job experience in instructional design, including audience analysis, task analysis, setting learning objectives and results assessment, and experience with competency based training.
  • Successful candidates will have personally authored the instructional design process.
  • Seven years experience managing a high performance team.
  • Experience in working with and coordinating the activities of technical writers.
  • Experience in developing and delivering knowledge management programs and activities.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with training, technical writing and knowledge management tools and technologies (learning management systems, eLearning authoring tools, single source authoring tools, content and document management technologies, etc.)
  • Proven effectiveness working in a highly matrixed organization, including ability to gain consensus at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong track record of setting strategic direction, providing a vision and leading a team toward new and improved methods and initiatives to meet and anticipate business needs.
  • Experience in developing and managing multi-million dollar budgets.
  • Evidence of organizational and project management skills.
  • Evidence of oral and written communication skills.
  • Expertise with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Graduate degree.
  • Hands-on experience with the View Central Learning Management System.
  • Hands-on experience with Mzinga's Publisher and Developer tools.
  • Hands-on experience with MadCap Flare.
  • Experience with relational databases and data management practices.
TRAVEL REQUIRED:
  • 10-15% a year.
